TN Penfolds Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 1998

  1. Found a bottle of this lurking in the cellar (one out of half a dozen or so I bought and mostly drank around 2001-5) and opened it in the expectation that it would probably be fit for a cooking wine at best, but thought I might as well check it out.
Yes, it is somewhat golden in colour with a little bit of caramelised apple on the nose, but it still had enough left for me to take a glass with my dinner - some toasty, buttery character with a bit of acidity and a long finish. Nowhere near the enjoyment I had from the other bottles drunk in the early to mid noughties but not so bad I felt the need to open a different bottle.
