  1. Breweries come and go at an alarming rate of knots in SoCal, but the unexpected loss of much-loved Council Brewing Co. in San Diego caused shock waves in the local beer culture.

    This excellent article looks at how a succession of unlucky occurrences and bad timing closed down this husband and wife-run brewery.

    In November, I went over to their Santee brewery on International Stout Day and thoroughly enjoyed their gorgeous 2016 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Pirates Breakfast Oatmeal Stout (10.5%). Little did I know the end was in sight.
