Pease send me your suggestions for wines costing under £10.00.

($16 US / $23 Canadian / $24 Australian / DM27 German / K125 Swedish).

These should be widely available in your country - if available internationally, even better. Including full details of the wine, price and supplier. If you could provide a brief tasting note that would be great - it doesn't have to be anything fancy; a line or two would be ideal.

You can either fill in this form or e-mail vistips@wine-pages.com.

UK: Faustino (Spain) Rioja V
Raspberrys, strawberries all the best fruit flavours, Easy to drink even without food, brillant with Lamb. Any good wine stockist, Sainsburys, Unwins; £8.99
Deborah Hetherington, Northern Ireland. Added 06/03

UK: Mont Tauch (France) Fitou L'Exception 2001
Although it is expensive at £10 I think this is one of the best red wines I have tasted. It has blackcurrant fruit and a lot of pencil aromas. It is silky and smooth on the palate but there is tannin too and it has a long, long finish. My wife thought it was better than the last "special" bottle I opened, which considering it was a £50 Hermitage, I better keep quiet about! Majestic £9.99
Patrick Haggerty, UK. Added 02/04/03

UK: Norton Malbec (Argentina) 2001
Inky velvety colour with big aromas of blueberries, with a big "macho" palate to match. Not overpowering. Superb structure for under 5! Oddbins, 4.99.
Tristan Sjoberg, UK. Added 02/04/03

UK: Silini Estate (New Zealand) Reserve Chardonnay 2000
I drink quite a bit of Kiwi Sauvignon, but this is the first Chardonnay I can remember trying and I was very impressed by it. There's quite a bit of nutty/oaky/smoky qualities on the nose, but the palate is not too oaky, with lots of rich fruit that reminds me of peach and melon. I thought this was very classy wine that lingered on the palate. It is in a screwtop too, which I like. Safeway £7.99.

UK: Château de Sours (France) Bordeaux Rosé 2001
I stuck this in a mixed case from Majestic a couple of months ago because the manager was raving about it. I wish I'd tried it sooner because it will probably be sold out now - to all those who were quicker off the mark! It really is beautiful stuff that is just full of fruit and has real body, even a bit of tannin, yet it is wonderfully crisp and refreshing all at the same time. Majestic £6.99

UK: Campo Lindo (Spain) Pla de Bages Crianza 1997
I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to recommend £2.99 wines on wine-pages! Honestly though, for a Rioja look-alike mature red wine this is a joy: it has that typical custard and spice nose, and a palate of rich, berry fruits. 70% Tempranillo, 30% Cabernet, this is very gluggable and quite classy - so what more do you want for £3? A steal! Aldi 2.99

UK: VinFive (Australia) Shiraz Cabernet 2001
You don't find many sub-£5 wines of this quality in my humble opinion. It has more than enough fruit to satisfy, but it avoids being simple or sweet and has a really quite complex character with earth and leaf nuances and good tannin level. This is our new house wine of the moment! Safeway £4.99.

UK: Domaine des Fontanelles (France) Viognier 2000
The Sauvignon Blanc is good too, but this is a really lovely white that should appeal to those who don't like overpowering oak and appreciate some acidity in their wine. That doesn't mean it is short on fruit though, as it is really stacked with crisp citrus and pear fruits. Majestic 3.99.

UK: Jose L Ferrer (Mallorca) Binissalem Reserva 1996
No British stockists as far as I know, but well worth trying if you are over there. It is sold in 50cl bottles; what a good idea that is. It has good jammy, herby notes and plenty of fruit. Rioja-style perhaps, serve at Gamay temperature. £5.50 per 50cl bottle

UK: Tesco Finest Steinweiler Liebfrauenberg Kabinett
A tasty off-dry wine with lime and lemon flavours and a stony dryness, but finishes with a hint of easy-drinking sweetness. I really liked this with Thai food. £3.99 Tesco.
Marion Travers, UK. Added 11/10/01

UK: Co-op own label Claret
Superb value everyday wine with a reasonable alcohol tag of 12 degrees. £2.95 at the Co-op.
John Burns, UK. Added 11/10/01

UK: Tedeschi Valpolicella Classico Superiore "Capitel dei Nicalo" 1997
This is not the ordinary Valpolicella you might get as a house red at your local pizzeria. The trademark gentle bitterness and earthiness, yes. But the weak colour and thin mouthfeel, no. This is rich, deliciously earthy, with intense 'sweet & sour' red fruits. Tangy but not overbearing acidity. Lovely long finish. Classy stuff. £5.99 at Majestic.
