Unwind (South Africa) Sauvignon Blanc|
Along with a growing band of New World producers, Tesco have stuck their corporate head above the parapet to
promote the screwcap as the logical alternative to cork. Whilst many await further evidence of how well screwcaps perform over decades before bottling their
finest wines for long-term cellaring, there now seems no doubt that for wines meant to be drunk young - especially aromatic whites like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc - the screwcap
has no down-side, and plenty of advantages. The "unwind" range at Tesco is sourced from around the globe, and this South African Sauvignon has plenty of
zing, with crisp gooseberry and nettle aromas, and a hint of lychee, leading on to a palate brimming with pear and tropical fruit. This is a gluggable wine with plenty of
ripe, easy-drinking fruit presented in a straightforward fashion, and a nice tongue-tingling acidity to freshen-up the finish. The Unwind Pinot Grigio is the same price, and
is a nice, ripe pear and apple-fruited Italian white, that is perfect for sipping on its own.
