Tupari, Marlborough Sauvingon Blanc 2010, New Zealand
Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough on New Zealand's South Island has had a rocky ride in recent years, with prices falling thanks to huge crops that led to oversupply and to fierce competition from lookalike wines appearing from
Chile, South Africa and elsewhere. So this wine at over £15 is now very much a top-end price, but it is absolutely worth it. The nose is beguiling, adding honey and a touch of hazelnut to copious nectarine and lychee
fruit, that is exotic and hugely juicy. On the palate a basis of orange acidity supports beautifully, but the gorgeous weight of mango and lychee, stone fruits and hints of grassiness run into a long, dry finish
that is food-friendly. Extremely well done. Watch the video for more information and for food-matching suggestions for this wine. £15.25, Oddbins. For all stockists see wine-searcher.
