Trulli (Italy) Primitivo Salento 1997
Many wines from Sicily and Puglia, in the very southern "heel" of Italy, continue to provide characterful and delicious drinking at moderate prices. This is made from the Primitivo grape, now proved to be a close relative of California's Zinfandel. This crimson/black wine has a syrupy, dense, jammy fruit character on the nose and the palate has plenty of sweet and sour cherry fruit with nuances of leather and game. Nice lemony acidity lifts the finish which is moderately long.
