Tahbilk, Shiraz 2006, Australia
Tahbilk is a venerable Aussie estate founded in 1860, when the first vines planted were Marsanne and Shiraz. The estate is situated in Victoria, not that far from the city of Melbourne. The first thing
that leaps out on the nose is oak, rather a lot of it giving a slightly resinous feel, but the oak is of excellent quality and there is terrific fruit beneath as well as plenty of Shiraz pepper. I am
certain it will meld together a little more with time, and indeed this is a wine that will age. In the mouth it is very harmonious, the fruit staying pure and focused and the structure beneath the
fruit - the tannins and acid framework - suggesting several years of cellaring potential. About £11.99, see all stockists on wine-searcher.com
