Domaine Spiropulous (Greece) Porfyros Dry Red Wine 1997
Oddbins hype on the wines of Greece continues. I have
had mixed results from tasting several of their range,
though this is a very nice wine indeed. The colour is light
to medium ruby. The nose is very soft with cedary,
tobacco aromas overlaid on spicy red berry fruit. On the
palate it is medium-bodied and nicely balanced with a
core of earthy berry fruit, a nice support from gentle
toasty oak and fine tannins and acidity. Though the fruit on
the palate is quite rustic, there's an elegance and finesse
about the finish that is very pleasing. Savoury, delicious
and great with a steak or some lamb. Oddbins £5.99 (02/00).
