La Motte (South Africa) Pierneef Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2008
No wine says "summer" more than Sauvignon Blanc, so with June sizzling on the horizon (fingers crossed) here is a crackling Sauvignon Blanc made from organic grapes grown in the Cape's cool Walker Bay coastal area.
The Pierneef Collection is La Motte's premium range, a tribute to South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef. This wine exudes class from the first sniff of its delicately tropical fruit, cut by a whiff of flint and smoke, and only
hinting at more herbaceous, pea-shoot character. It has huge zest and zing on the palate, with passionfruit and guava succulence, but everything is tempered and well-balanced, with a
core of acidity and that background, flinty minerality leaving this brimming with life. A Sauvignon Blanc from the top drawer. £10.99, Tesco
