With a week until Christmas I've chosen a creamy and smooth red with plenty of fruit and easy-going tannins as the perfect partner for roast turkey, but also with the versatility to match to red meats, hard cheeses and as a generally useful wine for the festive season. Ogier is a big company operating all over the Rhône Valley, and this wine brims with vanilla-licked, creamy black fruits with hints of chocolate and pepper on the nose. On the palate the flood of creamy, dense fruit is pulled along by silky tannins to give structure, whilst the wine majors on that savoury but sweet flesh of the fruit. £7.99, Morrisons.
