Devil's Corner, Pinot Noir 2008, Australia
Tasmanian wines are still fairly uncommon, but as one of Australia's coolest grape growing areas, there is great potential for aromatic varieties, including Pinot Noir. This is the second-string wine from
Tasmania's Tamar Ridge estate. It has an attractively smoky nose, with focused cherry fruit and lots of herbal character too. On the palate it is medium-bodied and has good, grippy tannins and
cherryish acidity, but a sweeter strawberry fruit fill in through the mid-palate. A nice half-way style between sweet, easy-drinking fruity Pinot and a wine with a bit of food-friendly edge and structure.
£9.99, Hawkshead Wines, Noel Young, Bon Coeur, Michael Jobling, Novum, Weavers, Wine Hound. Ballantynes and Amps list the 2007.
