CAVIT rarities

by Tom Cannavan, 04/07

I visited the northern Italian region of Trentino in 2003, when I profiled the region's biggest player, the super-cooperative CAVIT.

Recently, CAVIT sent me some sample bottles of thier more rarified, premium-priced products to try, only one of which - the excellent Bordeaux blend Quattro Vicariati - I'd tasted before. These wines are available from independent retailers in the UK and overseas. CAVIT has some wonderful grape material available to it through its membership of hundreds of growers, and this selection certainly shows that even a massive producer - CAVIT is responsible for 70% of all wine emanating from Trentino - can make truly interesting, unusual, hand-crafted wines.
